Professor Shieh’s research primarily focuses on investigating polarization rotation in ferroelectric single crystals, bulk materials, thin films, and ultra-thin films (<10nm) under electromechanical coupling. This work aims to predict the boundaries between linear and nonlinear material behaviors, which is crucial for selecting materials for advanced piezoelectric and ferroelectric devices, developing next-generation ferroelectric semiconductor transistors, and designing novel electromechanical transducers.

Additionally, his laboratory explores the synergy of semiconductor properties, ferroelectricity, and chemical defects in oxides to enhance the performance of oxide-based heterojunctions in photocatalysis and photoelectric conversion. Since 2020, Professor Shieh has also been leading a research team within the College of Engineering at NTU to execute R&D projects focused on the industrialization of hydrogen energy technologies.
